Seismic Survey Questionnaire

A new IWC survey aims to build a clearer picture of the scale, location and nature of marine seismic surveys conducted for hydrocarbon exploration. The survey will ask government agencies, private companies, research institutions and non-governmental organisations to provide information on survey activity now underway and planned at any point in the next five years.

The questionnaire requests information about the surveys, including the number of airguns used and frequency range, as well as timing, locations and any relevant regulations or environmental impact assessments.

The data gathered will be mapped and analysed, working with all stakeholders to build a global understanding of the scale, timings and locations of this survey activities, and identify areas of particular sensitivity.

The survey will be circulated to all IWC member governments and wider stakeholders including other intergovernmental organisations and specialist groups.
