Security Announcement

Updated: 26th April 2019

On 15-16 January 2019, there was a terrorist attack at the Riverside complex in Nairobi. The Kenyan Government have provided assurances that the situation has been contained and things are back to normal in the area affected. They have also confirmed that additional security and surveillance measures have been implemented in the whole city and surrounding areas.

A statement by Kenya Tourism Federation following the attack is available for download.

As a consequence of this attack the host Government and venue hotel have increased the levels of security for SC68a and we are now advising that all of our participants book their stay at this hotel and to not seek alternative accommodation elsewhere in the city. The Secretariat also engaged the services of a corporate security consultancy, who have performed a full security risk-assessment of the venue, which has been fully actioned and can provide secure ground transportation for participants if required (this can be arranged directly or through the Secretariat).

Please be assured that the safety and security of all IWC meeting participants is of highest priority and the Secretariat will be making all necessary efforts to ensure participants wellbeing. Further security updates will be posted here in due course as necessary.

Please contact the Secretariat if you have any questions or require any further information.
