2013 POWER Research Cruise sets sail

The IWC co-ordinates and directs a major research programme, POWER (Pacific Ocean Whale and Ecosystem Research). The fourth annual cruise will set sail on 12th July.  Scientists from Japan, Mexico and Korea will spend 60 days at sea and travel approximately 2000 nautical miles.  They will cover an area of the eastern North Pacific that has not been surveyed for approximately 40 years, using a vessel generously donated by Japan.  Key objectives are abundance and stock structure estimation for sei whales, fin and sperm whales.  For more information on the POWER Cruise programme click here. http://iwc.int/power Click here for the POWER Cruise image gallery. http://iwc.int/power-cruise-gallery
