IWC Governance Review Report published today

An independent report on IWC governance is published today.  At its last biennial meeting in 2016, the Commission adopted a Resolution which instigated a comprehensive and independent review of institutional and governance arrangements at the IWC. 

The report, written by three independent experts in multilateral treaty bodies, is the first step in the review process.   The report has been circulated to all IWC member governments and accredited observers, and will now be subject to thorough consideration and discussion, led by the IWC’s Working Group on Operational Effectiveness who will submit proposals on the way forward to the next biennial meeting of the IWC in September.
