The 64th Annual Meeting will take place during the week of the 02 July 2012. It will be preceded by meetings of the various sub-groups and the Scientific Committee meeting.
The Plenary Session of the meeting will be opened formally at 10:00 on Monday 02 July.
The media are permitted to attend and film and record all Plenary sessions, subject to availability of space and practical limitations on movement, camera positioning etc. in order to avoid disruption of the proceedings.
Members of the Media are subject to the IWC's Rules of Conduct at all times. Failure to comply with these Rules will result in withdrawal of accreditation and ejection from the meeting venue.
There will be daily Press Releases on this website during the Annual Meeting. A contact number will be made available for media persons in due course.
All media representatives, including camera and sound crews, are required to register.
Register your details online here before your arrival to speed up the registration process.
Registered personnel will be given IWC Media Passes which must be visibly displayed in order to gain access to the meeting room and to the conference venue generally, including the media room. You will be required to show a current valid photo ID (eg. passport) before you will be issued with a pass.
Media registration will take place at the Hotel El Panama, Panama City on Sunday 01 July from 14:00 - 17:00 and Monday 02 July from 08:00 - 10:00.
It is strongly advised that media register and collect their passes on Sunday afternoon, since Monday morning will be a very busy time and there is no guarantee that registrations on that morning will be completed in time for the opening session. If you are unable to register during these times, please ring the Secretariat Media Liaison, who will arrange your registration.
A registration fee of UK£70 is payable by each news entity (i.e. one fee will cover all members of a TV or radio crew). This is payable on collection of the Media Pass at registration. Payments by credit card only will be accepted, so please bring one with you. We regret that we are now unable to accept cash.
IWC Media Passes will only be given to members of recognised media who can produce a valid officially-recognised photo-ID (passport, driving licence or National ID card) AND documentary proof of membership of your Organisation (eg. Headed letter from Organisation, Press card etc.).
Members of the media will have direct access to delegates and observers, so they will be able to request interviews directly. Numbers and contact names for delegation offices will be made available as soon as they are known. The Secretariat will NOT arrange interviews with delegates on behalf of media organisations.
A Media Area in the Hotel will be available from 14:00 - 17:00 on Sunday 01 July, and daily for the duration of the Commission meeting from Monday 02 - Friday 06 July.
Any media agencies who intend to bring heavy equipment require the prior agreement of the Hotel El Panama.
