Guided tours of the Whale Watching Handbook

A short film is now available to provide a guided tour of the Whale Watching Handbook.  The Handbook is a comprehensive online tool, providing information on sustainable whale watching to regulators, policy makers, members of the public planning a trip, and the whale watching industry.

A partnership between the IWC and Convention for Migratory Species, the Handbook was launched in 2018 and is available in English, French and Spanish.  It is a living and evolving resource containing  tailored sections for different user groups and including an interactive world map, species guides, individual country profiles, case studies and educational factsheets.

Shaped by feedback and suggestions from users, new content has recently been added and includes a series of resources specifically for educators and tour guides.  As well as posters and classroom activities, the new material includes downloadable fact sheets explaining basic concepts of whale biology and ecology, which have been welcomed by whale watching companies.

The breadth and volume of material now available in the Handbook led to production of a short guided tour.  This gives a summary of content and shows users how to navigate efficiently to the relevant sections, manage the searchable database and use the interactive map.  The user guide is available on the IWC YouTube channel and by clicking here.
