CMP Deep Dive is a newsletter issued by the International Whaling Commission's Conservation Management Plan Program. It provides updates on the program's activities, including the assessment of progress and next steps for various cetacean populations, as well as the development of new Conservation Management Plans (CMPs).
The newsletter also features an interview with the Executive Secretary of the International Whaling Commission, and highlights recent achievements and challenges in cetacean conservation. The CMP program aims to protect and rebuild vulnerable cetacean populations through voluntary, coordinated efforts that address transboundary gaps in existing conservation measures.
The newsletter includes information on the biology and status of different cetacean populations, as well as actions to address threats and implementation strategies. The Arabian Sea Humpback Whale population is at risk due to various threats, and the newsletter highlights efforts to establish a Concerted Action under the Convention on Migratory Species to protect the species.
The newsletter also includes a profile of the coordinator of the Eastern South Pacific Southern Right Whale CMP, and a Call for CMP funding.
